Dal Lake
However, I found it hard to be there because of how sad it made me feel about what has happened to this country. We passed many families who had set up temporary shelters and homes on the shores of the lake, they would stop working and stare at us as we walked past them – so much sadness and loss was etched into their faces. It made me think about all those who have lost their lives since 1989, most often at the hands of terrorists. The Dal Lake has become a symbol for something so much greater than just a beautiful body of water with a scenic backdrop; one which will hopefully bring peace and prosperity to Kashmir soon enough.
Nainital Lake
If you’re looking for a short hike that offers views of one of the most scenic lakes in India, then the Nainital Lake trail is a great option. The hike starts at 1,827 meters and climbs to 2,000 meters over the course of 7 kilometers. It’s strenuous but not too difficult so it can be done by anyone who is physically fit and healthy. The best time to do it is either early morning or late afternoon because of the extreme heat during the day. If you’re lucky enough to see this area when there is snow on the mountains then it makes for an even more spectacular experience!
Wular Lake
Located in the Jammu and Kashmir region of northern India, Wular Lake is considered to be the largest lake in both Pakistan and India. The lake is also home to a variety of beautiful waterfowl including flamingos, geese, pelicans, and herons. So what are you waiting for? Pack your gear and get ready for this incredible adventure.
Gurudongmar Lake
One of the most popular treks in India is the Gurudongmar Trek. You’ll encounter spectacular views of Gurudongmar Lake, which is said to be one of the best lakes to see during a trek. The lake is located at an altitude of 12,200 feet and it’s usually shrouded in mist. This means that you’ll need to be prepared with rain gear and warm clothes if you want to stay dry and have clear views.
Kashmir Great Lakes Trek
If you’re planning to explore the Kashmir Great Lakes trek, don’t miss these amazing lakes, near Kashmir Great Lakes that make up this region of the world. From Lake Saif-ul-Maluk to Rupin Tal, there’s something for everyone here.
Lake Saif-ul-Maluk is a freshwater lake just outside of Pahalgam. The water is crystal clear and great for swimming or kayaking.
Lake Rupin Tal is only about 4 kilometers from Srinagar and offers visitors an opportunity to spot birds, some rare species of fish, and other wildlife. It’s also great for fishing!
Rani Jhansi Marine National Park
The Rani Jhansi Marine National Park is home to some of the most beautiful lakes and waterfalls. Located near the border between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, this park is a popular destination for many tourists looking for a serene place to explore. Some of the top attractions within the park include:
-The Garjiya Tal lake, which offers visitors stunning views of the Himachal and breathtaking sunrises/sunsets. -The Kishori Tal lake, which offers visitors an opportunity to spot a variety of birds including flamingos and cranes. -The Gauri Kund waterfall, which is one of the highest falls in India, making it popular among those looking for adrenaline rushes.
Beas Kund
The best part? It’s not too difficult of a hike and can be done by anybody with a good level of fitness. You’ll have to take a bus from Manali to the starting point, but if you do the whole trip, it should take about 8-10 hours (including stops for food) and will cost around Rs 500-700 ($7-$9).
One thing you need to know is that there are two routes up the mountain, one from Old Manali and one from Sari village. The latter is shorter but steeper, so I recommend going through Old Manali if you’re just doing Beas Kund or Tso Moriri Lake.
